Rainy Day Sunshine
I woke up this morning to a dreary, drizzly sort of day. It had been raining for a while, and the sky was one mass of puffy gray clouds. What can a girl do in such a dismal situation?
Don her cheeriest, yellowest, brightest, most obnoxious clothes possible! Wait. . . that isn't what you do? Well, that's okay, I don't always do it either. I sewed this skirt up a week or two ago, and all it needed was a button and a buttonhole. In an attempt to thin out my UFO pile, I decided that this was the perfect little project to start the day with. I revved up my sewing machine, and, in no time flat, I was wearing my darling fruit skirt!
I bought this fabric at the end of last summer when it was on clearance sale at Joann. I had been dreaming about a fruity dress, so I snapped up three yards for $2.50/yard. Since then, the fabric sat in my stash for several months until I decided that it had languished long enough. I was determined to use it for a spinny, puffy skirt like my tulip one.
It really doesn't take much to make a skirt like this. I will have to post a tutorial soon. It is ridiculously simple, and the results are so fun! It does use three yards of fabric. . . which is unfortunate, but then you have every excuse to buy more! What's not to like?
The skirt is finished with a two(ish) inch, lapped waistband. I used a cute bee button from Joann. (I cannot find the correct buttons on the website, so here is a link to some nice ones.) It has a standard lapped zipper, to go with the lapped waistband, of course.
And if you are totally jealous of my fabulous, knee high, buzzy bee socks, you can find them here. They are currently sold out, but I am sure they will be back soon.
The hair bow is something I whipped up in five minutes last night. You can find countless tutorials online for hair bows. My personal favorite is this one by Dana from Made Everyday. The knit cardigan was knitted using the Miette pattern by Andi Satterlund, and the t-shirt underneath is the Sweetheart T-shirt pattern from Gertie Sews Vintage Casual.
Jolly day to you!
