I hope you have all had a wonderful and merry Christmas this year. I did. I loved spending time with my family and doing all those lovely sentimental traditional things. We had a delicious breakfast made by my mum. Then we opened presents bought by my dad while he was deployed. It has been such a good Christmas.
I finished my festive dress a couple days before my birthday (which was the 23rd) so then I had a dress for both my birthday and Christmas.
The Megan dress is from Tilly and the Buttons’ first book Love at First Stitch. I made my first version a few weeks ago which, along with several other projects I’ve made since moving to Tennessee, is still un-blogged. I tweaked the pattern significantly. I can’t really leave patterns alone anymore. I’m too picky about fit! And I’ve started narrowing down the specific design details that I really like.
I lowered the neckline and changed it into a square sweetheart. I lengthened the bodice by 3 inches so that it would hit at my natural waist. I drafted a flared gathered skirt. It is shorter than I would have liked due to fabric restrictions but it works. I’m not used to showing this much leg!
i made a size 5 with a FBA and everything fit perfectly. Even the sleeves aren’t too snug. I have found myself becoming more enamored with the drafting of the Tilly and the Buttons patterns every time I make one. At this point I’ve made Coco, Cleo, Agnes, Joni, Frankie, and now Megan. They take adjustments, but once that’s done they fit beautifully and are so wearable.
I am glad I finally took the time to tackle the Megan dress. I’ve been too distracted by other projects. But it is better late than never.
