I whipped up this Sorrel dress a few weeks ago as my final tester version for Jen of Jennifer Lauren Handmade. She opened a Kickstarter on November 1st to fund the process of getting the Sorrel dress available as a printed pattern (rather than just a PDF like the rest of her patterns) and her initial goal was fully funded within 24 hours!! Wow! She has since added a stretch goal of getting another of her patterns printed too.Read More

I purchased the Felicity dress pattern several years ago during a Black Friday sale. I’ve sewn up one version in a solid yellow mystery fabric from my stash but it has been extremely difficult to get good pictures of it. Something about all the yellow throws off the lighting of my camera.
This past week I finally made a second version and I love it even more than the first!Read More
I am sewing up a second Jennifer Lauren Handmade Felicity dress out of some gorgeous fabric I received in the last round of Fibre Share. I haven’t blogged about the first version because it is yellow which, I have discovered, is incredibly hard to photograph! I have attempted three separate photoshoots none of which have resulted in good pictures. There were some adequate ones, but I’m too picky to want to use those.Read More
The Pippi Pinafore Dress by Jennifer Lauren Handmade is a sweet overall dress with pockets, side button closure, buckles, and a slightly flared skirt.
Overall/Pinafore style garments are some of my favorite. When I was younger I had a pair of bib shorts that I wore non-stop. It is a scheme of mine to figure out how to make a similar pair for myself now. But until that's sorted, I would have no problem making a dozen or so Pippi dresses to satisfy my pinafore dress addiction.Read More
Hello my dears,
It's a snow day over here at Emmy Couture HQ! I have had enough snow this season, but I am glad of a chance to get my next podcast episode up. There is a good amount of sewing in addition to the usual knitting content. I review three books, and share my love of my new job. Enjoy!!Read More
I have decided to change things up a little. Instead of my usual "finished garment" post, I am going to share some "work-in-progress" photos. I've noticed that I am constantly trying to come up with a new sewing project in order to have a blog post. The problem? I am finding my wardrobe to be full of garments that I made merely for the purpose of blogging rather than something I actually want/need. . . I think that the process of creating is just as fascinating (if not more so!) than the finished product. Does this mean I will no longer be blogging about my makes? Absolutely not!! I just want to share a few more "behind-the-scenes" posts. I've decided to start a series of blog posts called: "What Am I Making?" The goal of this series is to celebrate the joy of the creative process.Read More
I have been signed up to Jennifer Lauren's pattern testing group for quite some time now. I would excitedly see the announcements about the need for testers, but every time I was always too late. When she let everyone know that she was preparing a men's cardigan pattern I jumped at the opportunity hoping that I would finally make the cut. I did! So I am here today to tell you all about how amazing this pattern is.Read More
