Jennifer Lauren Handmade Sorrel Dress Pattern Review

Jennifer Lauren Handmade Sorrel Dress Pattern Review

I whipped up this Sorrel dress a few weeks ago as my final tester version for Jen of Jennifer Lauren Handmade. She opened a Kickstarter on November 1st to fund the process of getting the Sorrel dress available as a printed pattern (rather than just a PDF like the rest of her patterns) and her initial goal was fully funded within 24 hours!! Wow! She has since added a stretch goal of getting another of her patterns printed too.

Jennifer Lauren Handmade Felicity Dress Pattern Review

Jennifer Lauren Handmade Felicity Dress Pattern Review

I purchased the Felicity dress pattern several years ago during a Black Friday sale. I’ve sewn up one version in a solid yellow mystery fabric from my stash but it has been extremely difficult to get good pictures of it. Something about all the yellow throws off the lighting of my camera.

This past week I finally made a second version and I love it even more than the first!

Mina Philipp's Cumulus Hat Pattern Review

Mina Philipp's Cumulus Hat Pattern Review

I am fairly convinced that Mina Philipp is a super woman. She is a fantastic knitting pattern designer who is constantly creating some of the most beautiful patterns I've ever seen. I've wanted to be a pattern tester for her for some time, but, as you can imagine, the position is much desired by many knitters. Somehow, I managed to get my name in soon enough to be a tester for her newly released Cumulus Hat.

Andi Satterlund's Tierney Cardigan Pattern Review

Andi Satterlund's Tierney Cardigan Pattern Review

I think it is appropriate that the first garment I ever knit was the Miette cardigan, and the first "real yarn" garment I knit is also an Andi Satterlund cardigan design. I've knit a small handful of cardigans since I really got back into knitting three years ago, but they've all been knit from acrylic yarns. It is amazing the difference it makes to have a hand knit garment made from a natural fiber blend!

Miel Shawl - Claire Walls: A Pattern Review

Miel Shawl - Claire Walls: A Pattern Review

The Miel shawl by Claire Walls is finally live!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Now I'm normally not a fan of triangular shawls, but the benefit of this particular shawl is that it is quite large.  The other triangle shawls I have knit in the past were smaller and didn't cover my arms when I wore them around my shoulders. Miel completely covers my arms and then some! It is a warm, cozy, half blanket shawl and I love it.

Billowing Shawl - The Blue Mouse: Pattern Review

Billowing Shawl - The Blue Mouse: Pattern Review

I have been on such a shawl knitting kick recently! That is partly due to all the test knits I’ve been working on over the past month or so, but I’ve also just been enjoying working on projects bigger and more complex than socks. I actually have three more shawls that I’ll be blogging about when the patterns are released. (If you want a peek at them, they were featured on my most recent podcast episode.)

Seamwork Weston Shorts + Megan Nielsen Matilda Dress Hack Pattern Review

Seamwork Weston Shorts + Megan Nielsen Matilda Dress Hack Pattern Review

It has been such a struggle to get pictures of a finished sewing project recently! I have tried on three separate occasions to photograph a cheery yellow dress and every time the pictures have been a colossal flop. It is surprisingly difficult to capture yellow accurately. Most of the time it ends up blurry or blown out. . . Gah! I just want to show you the dress!!

But I did manage to get some decent pictures of a different outfit. Lets discuss the top first.

A Second Attempt - Tilly and The Buttons Cleo Dress Review

A Second Attempt - Tilly and The Buttons Cleo Dress Review

Hello my dears,

In late 2016, I attempted to sew a Cleo dress. I made it out of a floral needlecord or corduroy, depending on which you call it. I was less than impressed with the finished dress. It was lumpy, bumpy, and all sorts of unflattering!

I was extremely disappointed! I have seen so many versions of the Cleo dress on a variety of different ladies and it always looks stinking adorable. Why didn't it work for me? What had I done wrong?

Well, I've sewn up another version of Cleo and it has been a rousing success. Let me tell you what I learned.

Becky Sorensen's Sterntaler Socks Pattern Review

Hello my dears,

I was planning to write a book review of Howl's Moving Castle today, but I have something much more exciting to share! Don't worry, the book review will be coming very soon.

At the end of November Becky of the S{tr}inging It Together podcast put out a testing call on Instagram.
